Consultant Urologist Completes Brighton Triathlon and Raises More Than £1,100 for Cancer Research UK
A West Sussex consultant urologist has swapped the operating theatre for open water, cycling and running to complete the Brighton & Hove Triathlon — raising more than £1,100 for Cancer Research UK.
Mr Simon Woodhams, Consultant Urologist at University Hospitals Sussex and a member of West Sussex Urology LLP, successfully completed the challenging event on Sunday 6 September after weeks of training and preparation.
Simon took on the triathlon to raise money for Cancer Research UK, a cause particularly close to his heart through his work caring for patients affected by cancer.
His fundraising campaign has already raised £1,158.92, with a further £235.75 in Gift Aid, meaning the total potential contribution is now approaching £1,400.
Simon said the challenge was about more than simply completing a triathlon.
“As a urologist, I see first-hand the impact that cancer can have on patients and their families. Research is so important in improving treatments and outcomes, and ultimately finding better ways to prevent and cure cancer.
“The triathlon was definitely a challenge, but knowing that I was raising money for such an important cause made all the training and hard work worthwhile. I’m hugely grateful to everyone who donated and supported me.”
The fundraising page has received 37 donations, with friends, family, colleagues and supporters leaving messages of encouragement and congratulations following Simon’s successful finish.
For Simon, the event provided an opportunity to combine a personal sporting challenge with something that could make a real difference to people affected by cancer.
“I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who donated, shared the fundraising page or sent a message of support. It was a tough day, but crossing the finish line knowing that the effort had helped raise money for Cancer Research UK was a fantastic feeling.”
The fundraising campaign remains open, and donations can still be made through Simon’s JustGiving page.
